When I Grow Up from Fever Ray on Vimeo.
At the moment this is my favorite music video — from Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife and Royksopp. Remember the failed film Lady in the Water from M Knight Shyamalan? This seems to borrow some stylistic touches, while also telling a short story on it’s own.. I see a water spirit or nymph performing spells over a swimming pool, with only one onlooker.. fall is approaching, and the weather is literally changed by the figure on the diving board, leading to the climax of the piece. Just brilliant in editing, and execution.
I’m assuming that this was a one day shoot, with a second day for pick up shots into the trees, clouds, wth only one effect shot leading up before the climax. Evertything else is in camera, the water drops, the pool, etc. The fanciest special effect here is simply a series of strong strobe lights timed to water spashes.

This was beautifully shot, although my overwhelming sense from this was a teenaged girl on LSD while her father is painfully watching from inside the house. Maybe I’m reading too far into it.
